It had been a number of years since I stayed up to watch the Perseid meteor shower. This year I prepared well, reclining lawn chair and sleeping bag at the ready. I went out shortly before midnight, stretched out on the lawn chair and let the starlight pour into my eyes. I guess I haven't tried this since I'd gotten variable focus eye glasses. It was odd that I couldn't keep all the stars in focus at the same time.
I saw a few dozen meteors. Far from the most spectacular display I've seen but beautiful none the less. Rather than the awe I often feel when stargazing, I felt lonely. Watching meteors should be a shared activity. You don't even need to talk but the watching together enhances the experience.
I'll know better next time.

Just watched The Seven Year Itch again. TCM is running 12 of Marilyn's movies. She is so amazing. I can't imagine what I wouldn't give up to be with her.

I attended the wedding and reception of some young friends yesterday. My mind was in gear throughout the events. Often the music in church bores me. But the psalm was done with the coolest jazz beat. Not bad for a Catholic church.
The reception hall could have used a bit more air conditioning but it was a nice family atmosphere. I often play a little mind game when in a crowd. If I could have any woman present, but only one, which would I choose? Tacky I know but it is my mind and I'll play with it as I want.
There were a wide variety of young party types. Fancy hair, snug short little black dresses, and noisy celebrations. It was great fun being on the dance floor among them. Any one would have been a hoot to be with and completely outside my range of experience. Granted that in itself isn't saying much.
I find that I'm attracted to women with more gray hair than I used to be. Now I don't have gray. Okay I shave it off my head everyday so I don't have any gray hair. Well there might be some other around, you'll need to research that yourself.
There was one woman about my age with very close cropped hair, less than a quarter inch long. When I see this style I worry it is a result of some sort of medical treatment. I think this was a style choice, and a darn fine one at that. She was lean and toned. Her face was clever. Her eyes bright. The few words I managed to exchange with her, darn those spouses hanging around, were smart and funny.
Yep, she would have won, or lost depending upon your perspective, my little mind game. Fun dreams last night.

Cam observation #3417

Ok, I do occasionally flip through the cams broadcasting in IM.  One explores the options available.
Earlier tonight I clicked on a cam link and up popped an image of a beautiful woman a few years younger than myself. She was stretched out with her head toward the foot of her bed. The camera was framed from her chest up. I could see two lovely full breasts which she gently teased. She tipped up her face to peer down the length of her body apparently drawn by the actions of someone out of the camera frame. Her facial expressions led me to believe that she was enjoying the attention being paid to that portion of her body I could not see. As I began to press the combination of keystrokes to let me her any sound her mouth might be making that mouth opened wide with the biggest tonsil stretching yawn imaginable. I laughed loud enough someone else in the house must have heard me.
That made my night more than hearing her pleasure. I'm pretty certain that her partner was glad to be out of frame. Not a great endorsement.

No one who has read my blog is surprised to learn I love biking. I was out this morning. (20 miles, woo-hoo) It occurred to me, early in the ride with the wind at my back not so much later on, that biking has some of the characteristics of sex. There’s the building breathlessness, the rhythmic pumping. There is the digging deep to climb a particular hill. Then you get to lean back and coast to feel cooler air. It is not that I would replace sex for biking but if I’m not getting the former, the later doesn’t suck.
Of course there are facets that don’t equate. It is remarkably sexy to sense the scent of a woman’s perfume captured on one's own skin. The effect is less sexy when your skin captures the scent of her perfume despite the fact that you are on different bikes, going opposite directions with a passing speed that had to be close to 20 miles per hour. That is either too much or too strong of perfume.
The rocking of one’s perineum against the seat can let one imagine someone stimulating you in that way. Witnessing that when trapped on the trail behind an enormous sweaty guy, not so much. Particularly when the amount of his ass draped over his bicycle seat belies the fact that there is actually as seat present. I think there are still a couple of states where that bike seat could be arrested for immoral conduct.
My goal is to bike everyday this week. I think I need to focus on the better daydreams.

What with the terminal degree and all I suppose I'm expected to be reading esoteric stuff even in the summer. Well as guilty pleasures go I guess my Clive Cussler novel is pretty tame. I also have to admit to liking Twilight and Sookie Stackhouse. Guess I'll just have to work up to bigger guilts.

Did 12 more miles on the bike today though I was feeling yesterday's ride more that I should have.
I lost a filling last week and had it replaced today. I've never had nitrous oxide before. It will never replace the martini but its not bad. I just didn't comment when the dentist said "at the least it would reduce gagging."

It is a shame that I have a photo I can't share with anyone. I stopped into Beansnappers just north of Appleton for a bit tonight. I won a raffle that included my picture being taken with a very cute, very clever and very topless dancer. Dalila was great fun and the picture turned out terrific, but who can I share it with.

Just finished cutting up the last of the trees and limbs from last summer's storm. Got plenty of firewood for the next year or two. Now just need to find someone to share the blazing fireplace with. I've got this picture of every pillow in the house piled on the floor in front of the hearth.

Is there anything quite so satisfying and pleasurable as a hot cup of coffee first thing in the morning that...
doesn't cost much money;
doesn't depend upon anyone else' cooperation;
has minimal negative health impact;
makes most days better;
and generates a long deep sigh.
I take my pleasures as I can.

I'm perched on the end of the sofa watching the moon peek through the branches of the pines right outside. It has been ages since I've done any howling. I was never very experienced at it. Definitely a use it or lose it situation.
